Elimination of Prescribed Industrial Waste
The AISF, in conjunction with the AIG and EPA, has commenced a project on the recovery and recycling of chromic acid in the electroplating industry. The intention is to establish recovery technology to reduce and ultimately eliminate sludge and filter cake disposal to landfill. This currently costs our member companies a great deal of money and it will increase further in the future.
Member companies will be contacted by the project contracted company, Hyder Consulting, to commence gathering information. The results of this information will be used to determine useful recovery / recycling technologies.
The AISF will then assist participating companies in getting subsidised financial assistance from the EPA HazWaste fund, to help cover the cost of implementing these initiatives.
Rob Legg organised a very successful technical information night on the reduction of chromic acid waste in the plating industry in October of this year. A follow up session will be held early 2010.
For more information on how you can get involved, please contact Sharon at the AISF on 03 9416 2222.
